How to Spot Lace Tears Early (Before They Ruin Your Wig)

Lace tears are one of the most common wig issues we see at TWB, and one of the easiest to ignore until it’s too late. A small hole today can become a full replacement tomorrow. Here’s how to catch them early and save yourself time, money, and stress.

1. Inspect under bright, natural light
Lace damage hides in shadows. Place your wig on a stand near a window or under a bright lamp. Look closely along the hairline and parting, these are the highest stress zones.

2. Feel for irregular texture
Run your fingertip gently along the lace. A small tear often feels like a rough patch or raised edge, even before it’s obvious to the eye.

3. Watch for shedding in clusters
If you notice hairs falling from the same spot, the lace may be thinning or tearing underneath.

4. Check after styling sessions
Heat, glue, and frequent removal put extra strain on lace. Build a quick “lace check” into your routine after big installs or styling days.

5. Act early
The earlier you catch a tear, the cheaper and quicker the fix. A tiny repair costs far less (and looks far cleaner) than waiting until the lace is shredded.

At TWB, lace repair is what we do best. Don’t wait for a full replacement, if you’ve spotted a small tear, book a repair with us before it spreads.
