Before you throw that wig out, read this.
Most units that look finished are fixable. The lace is usually the first thing to go, and it is also the easiest thing to replace. If the hair is still healthy but the lace has torn, split at the parting or gone stiff and shiny, that is a lace replacement, not a write off.
Bald patches are the other big one. Thinning at the parting, a receding hairline on the unit, small holes where knots have pulled through. All of that gets rebuilt by hand, strand by strand, using ventilation. Done properly you cannot see where the old hair stops and the new hair starts. That is exactly what The Balding Fix is for.
What is genuinely not worth saving? Hair that has been chemically fried down to elastic, so it stretches and snaps when wet. Severe matting through the whole cap. A cap that has stretched so far it no longer sits on your head. If the hair itself is dead, no amount of repair brings it back.
The honest test is simple. Healthy hair plus damaged base equals repairable. Damaged hair plus fine base equals probably not.
